That title sounds conniving and low don’t you think? I have done a little research today about giving freebies or bribes, because to be honest it has become a bit of a joke. If there is some value in giving your customers freebies, don’t you agree it should be done intelligently?
In my research I found various ideas and opinions on whether it is good to give, or not to give – and just reading the comments from people and their theory, tells us clearly who they are, what they are, and their attitude not just towards their business but life and people in general. There were some intelligent comments but mostly, the comments were transparent unconvincing.
Online business is harder than offline for sure, as we have to put more effort into selling ourselves, but online marketing has become downright dirty and the majority of passion that I see is greed. It is sickening and offensive.
I receive emails all the time saying – ‘here grab this free whatever quickly before it is taken down’. Do I open that? I sure don’t! I mean who is this and what is it? Could they at least have the decency to take the time to tell me what I am going to look at? I will un-subscribe, bearing in mind that I did not subscribe in the first place!
OK it takes a while to get going online, but if you are genuine and you have value to offer why should you give your stuff away? Once you have loyal subscribers – I believe it is good to offer them a treat now and again to say you appreciate them, but to offer freebies for sign ups is plain stupid, they will either see it as a con, or take the freebie and un-subscribe, they don’t know you or trust you, and mostly people do not value free stuff.
If you feel good about offering something for free – then offer a sample of the thing you are selling? Not something totally different, and bonuses, wow – how many bonuses, to me that is overwhelming. Why not just ask them to come and look at what you have and let them view part of what you are about, if they like it they will likely stay, if they don’t then there is not point bribing them with freebies, they are out of here! If they do sign they won’t stay for long.
Surely it is better to spend your energy on people who are really interested in what you have?
This is only my opinion but as I see it many marketers have ruined it for everybody. We get conned into signing up, then if we think something is good, we get hit with half a dozen up sells, followed by daily affiliate links sent in email – but hey – we just bought your product, why would you promote someone else and then the next day something else?
If what you are selling online is good and genuine people will find you, spend your time promoting cleverly and smartly just like you would offline – you would advertise! Now maybe you would offer an introductory coupon, this is good – it is money off the real product, and you have a real price too not some out there price for a digital eBook!
If you want to give something for free – how about an introduction to who you are and what you have that will help them?
I find the on line world really rather horrible, mostly full of cheats and thieves. This makes it very difficult for someone who is genuine, they have to work even harder to survive! My Success to you, to all you deserve and desire!
