Boxing gave me more than bruises and broken knuckles—it gave me a way of looking at the world. I’ve fought in rings, car parks, and smoky backrooms. I’ve tasted victory, swallowed defeat, and stared down men twice my size with nothing but a pair of fists and a heart full of grit. But what people often miss is that everything I learned in the ring followed me into real life.
Discipline Isn’t Just for Fight Night
Boxing teaches you to show up. Every day. Rain or shine. Tired or not. That same discipline got me through the early mornings on building sites, through injuries, through setbacks in life when most people would have packed it in.
When you’ve spent weeks running at dawn and smashing pads until your arms feel like lead, it builds something in you. You learn that success—inside the ring or out—isn’t about big moments. It’s about consistency.
Pain Is Temporary—Quitting Lasts Longer
In life, you get hit in other ways: money problems, loss, personal failures. Boxing taught me that you can’t let those hits define you. Take a breath. Bite down. Keep swinging.
Respect Is Earned, Not Given
In boxing—especially bare-knuckle—you earn respect the hard way. You don’t get a pat on the back for turning up. You earn it when you take a shot and keep going. You earn it when you give someone hell and shake their hand after.
Outside the ring, it’s no different. No one’s handing you anything. Whether it’s work, relationships, or just how you carry yourself—respect comes when people see you show up, speak straight, and stand your ground.
Life After the Ring
These days, I’ve found a new passion in sharing the raw truth of our sport, especially with Newmount Films. I’ve had the chance to work with them on some incredible projects, telling the real stories behind bare-knuckle boxing. Filming with them has been a real eye-opener—it’s not just about the fight, but about the people, the history, and the heart of the sport. It’s been a privilege to help bring these untold stories to life, and it’s given me a new way to connect with the fans who’ve supported me through my career.
